Summary
Anaemia is a disease characterized by a decreased concentration of haemoglobin in the blood below the estimated range given by gender and age. Clinical signs of anaemia are strongly connected to the aetiology, pathogenesis, additional disorders of the individual, and rapidity of its onset. Reflecting the general tissue hypoxemia caused by decreased haemoglobin level, the signs are usually polysystemic. Oral manifestations of anaemia occur relatively frequently and can often lead to proper diagnosis of an underlying disease. The authors of this review emphasize oral manifestations of anaemia and believe that both physicians and dental practitioners should be aware of their symptoms.
