Summary
Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) is a Th2 hypersensitive response to A. fumigatus colonization of airways in predisposed persons, that predominantly affects asthmatic and cystic fibrosis patients. A number of genetic risk factors have been identified to play a role in the development of ABPA. The diagnostic assessment ABPA is based on the presence of a combination of clinical, laboratory and radiological findings, the early detection of the disease and the adequate treatment have a major effect on the prognosis of patients.
