The reasons for including migrants from third countries into the public health insurance

Summary
Legal migrants residing in the Czech Republic on a long term represent about 4 percent of population. One of the basic conditions for their successful integration into the Czech society is access to adequate health care. Current Czech legislation addresses this requirement by setting a health insurance a necessary precondition for residence and work permit. Major part of migrants meet this requirement through participation in the Czech public health insurance. However, some third country nationals have no access to this comprehensive health insurance scheme and are being referred to commercial health insurance, which is specifically intended to migrants. They are self-employed, students, family members, and all the children, whose parents are residing in the Czech Republic long-term but not permanently. Article provides a summary of the reasons why these migrants should be included in the national public health insurance.
