Summary
Delirium is a complex geriatric syndrome. Its incidence is high especially in geriatric patients in hospitals. Delirium is a sign of worse prognosis during hospital stay and after it. Its prevention, early detection, therapy and complex management are therefore of great importance. Its impact is increasing with population ageing and increasing numbers of older patients. In the article we present delirium in the light of new knowledge and especially practical recommendations published by NHS of England and Scotland.
