Summary
The paper presents the revised European consensus on definition and diagnosis of sarcopenia recommended by the European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People in 2018. Sarcopenia is defined as a progressive, generalized muscle disorder associated with a higher risk of negative health outcomes – falls, fractures, physical disability and mortality. Furthermore, the diagnostic algorithm for screening and diagnosis of sarcopenia is described in detail. The article provides a detailed review of screening and diagnostic methods and consensus-based cut off values.
