Inflammatory Mechanisms in the Genesis and Progression of Atherosclerosis
Zánětlivé mechanizmy ve vzniku a progresiaterosklerózy
Teorie vzniku a rozvoje aterosklerózy byly v posledních desetiletích doplněny podrobnějším pochopením zúčastněnýchimunitních dějů. Článek se zabývá rolí makrofágů, příčinami jejich aktivace, cytokiny, T lymfocyty. Projevemzvýšené aktivace imunitního systému jsou zvýšené bazální koncentrace C-reaktivního proteinu a dalších reaktantůakutní fáze, jejichž význam byl prokázán i ve velkých epidemiologických studiích. Příčiny vzniku tohoto tzv.subklinického zánětu mohou být různorodé: poškození akutním zánětem, chronické infekce, autoimunitní poškození(Hsp60). Závěr článku je věnován genetickým podkladům změněné reaktivity imunitního systému, jejichž výzkumv současné době probíhá.

Recent studies have proved the importance of immune mechanisms participating in the genesis and progression ofatherosclerosis. This review depicts the role of macrophages and the mode of their activation, the part of cytokinesand T lymphocytes. Elevation of C-reactive protein and other acute phase reactants is a newly discovered characteristicof the atherosclerotic process, and their importance has been demonstrated in extensive epidemiologicaltrials. It is now recognized that subclinical inflammation (as a consequence of an activation of immune system) canbe caused by several factors: damage by acute inflammation, chronic infections, autoimmune damage (Hsp60).Genetic determination of the immune system reactivity has been intensively studied.
