Head Injuries and Alcohol Abuse
Úrazy hlavy a alkohol
Zneužívání alkoholu zvyšuje riziko úrazu a hlavy, komplikuje léčbu těchto stavů a zhoršuje jejich prognózu. Všechny pacienty po úrazu hlavy je před alkoholem třeba varovat. U těch, kdo zneužívají alkohol bez závislosti, by měl jejich lékař provést krátkou intervenci. Těm, kdo jsou na alkoholu závislí, je správné doporučit odvykací léčbu. V prevenci je důležité snížit celkovou spotřebu alkoholu a lépe informovat veřejnost o nebezpečích alkoholu a úrazů hlavy.

Summary
Alcohol abuse increases the risk of head injuries, makes the treatment more difficult and worsens the prognosis. All patients after head injury should be informed that alcohol abuse is especially dangerous to them. The patients abusing alcohol without dependence should receive brief intervention from their physicians. The alcohol dependent patients should be referred and treated accordingly. Prevention of societal level includes decreasing of overall alcohol consumption and education of general public about the risks of alcohol abuse and head injuries.
