Summary
The research in hyperbaric medicine is still developing, so it is important to keep Czech medical professionals up to date about latest research evidence in this field. Within this study we have focused on the actual research evidence in the field of available chronical diagnoses. Purpose of this overview of systematic reviews was to investigate what are existing research evidence in the effectiveness of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) at available chronical indications. The systematic search retrieved through 10 databases search by Epistemonikos 13 systematic reviews which matched inclusion criteria. HBOT has statistically and clinically significant effect at several chronical indications. For example, in patients with diabetic foot ulcers in short period until 6 weeks. HBOT is very statistically and clinically significant for treatment in patients with femoral head necrosis. On the other hand, there is no effect of HBOT in patients with autism. HBOT could be used preventively to reduce risk of implant failure in patients after radiotherapy. There is some evidence of moderate quality that HBOT improves outcome in late radiation tissue injury affecting bone and soft tissues of the head and neck
