Summary
The paper presents our first experience with the VEMP examination method. In the course of one year the authors examined 250 patients predominantly with inner ear diseases. The patients were allocated into individual groups according to nosological units – auditory transmission disorder, sudden hearing disorder – cochlear, supracochlear, vestibular neuronitis, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), Meniere disease, central vestibular disorder and psychogenic vertigo. The analysis of results in individual groups makes it clear that VEMP is an important part of diagnostics of vertigo conditions and significantly enriches neurootologic examination.
Key words:
vestibular evoked potentials (VEMP), vertigo, peripheral vestibulopathy.
