Summary
Aim:
Rare case of benign appendix tumor of suspected gynecological origin in a patient with tumor in small pelvis.
Name and location of clinic:
Obstetrical Gynecological Clinic, Faculty of Medicine, Masaryk University and University Hospital Brno.
Case report:
66-year-old patient with history of myomatous uterus and subsequent abdominal hysterectomy with left side adnexectomy. 13-cm tumor of small pelvis with neoplastic markers elevation was diagnosed at our clinic. Diagnostic laparotomy was performed due to suspected ovarian process with finding of tumor in typical appendix localization. Appendectomy and right side adnexectomy was performed. Histological examination confirmed appendiceal adenoma, right ovarium was without malignant changes. Further oncogynecological follow-up was not indicated.
Conclusion:
Above-described case was a good example of necessity to include appendiceal pathology on a differential list of diagnostics of tumors in small pelvis, especially in right side localization based on topographic anatomy.
Key words:
appendix – tumor in small pelvis – diagnostic laparotomy
