Summary
Among the aids facilitating pain relief and overcoming difficulties in executing daily activities in persons with gonarthrosis include unloader orthoses. The aim of this study is to assess the influence of unloader orthosis on pain, joint stiffness, physical function and plantar pressure distribution during gait in patients with gonarthrosis. The experimental group consisted of 5 persons of age 70.1 ± 4 years; the control group also comprised 5 persons of age 67.4 ± 4.6 years. To assess the orthosis effect, the WOMAC questionnaire and plantar pressure distribution analysis during gait were applied. Measurement was carried out before the application of the orthosis, after four months of use and three months after doing away with the orthosis. The results indicate that using the orthosis reduces plantar pressure of the lateral part of foot on affected limb, with slightly reduced functional affection and knee pain.
