Summary
Occupational therapy (ergotherapy) is a growing field in the Czech Republic. From the Medical Yearbook of the Czech Republic, it can be seen that in 2006, there were 356.91 full-time occupational therapists (9). According to the Medical Yearbook 2016, 476,5 full-time occupational therapists were registered in 2016 (10). The above-mentioned data show an increase in the number of employees in the field of occupational therapy. However, with the gradual increase in the number of occupational therapists operating in the Czech Republic, it is ever more important that support materials be created for them.
Nowadays, it is the goal of all therapists to maximally support their field and prove the indispensability of their cooperation in a multidisciplinary team. They seek their place both in the field of early rehabilitation and in the field of subsequent rehabilitation and counselling (31).
The study deals with evaluation of occupational intervention at a specific department of Beds for early rehabilitation of the cerebrovascular centre of the General University Hospital in Prague. The subject of interest is primarily the results of the Functional Independence Measure (FIM) test, which are compared with the length of patient hospitalization.
According to Bartolo et al., the choice of a suitable test affects a more precise definition of goals, so the therapy focuses better on problem areas. Using a suitable test and therapy directly targeted to the problem will also subsequently affect a better outcome when relocating patients to home care (4).
The aim of the pre-research was to evaluate the length of hospitalization in relation to the patient’s self-sufficiency at the end of the hospitalization. The research group consists of 84 patients who were evaluated using the above-mentioned test. The results showed that the input FIM test values are related to the length of hospitalization. Furthermore, the length of hospitalization is related to the value of the difference between the input and output FIM test. The analysis of the obtained data confirmed the hypothesis at a significance level of 1 %.
