Summary

A common complication of implanted biliary stent is obstruction caused by overgrowing their tissues, often in a term of a few months after their implantation. This complication can be solved by using of the method of radiofrequency tissue ablation, performed by the stent with active electrode and subsequent thermal tissue destruction in neighborhood of this electrode. This heating process was observed in this experiment by using contactless thermography method. Within the experiments were monitored thermal changes of both the stent and the surrounding tissue. The authors also described thermal effect of monopole or bipolar radiofrequency ablation, in the case of direct contact of electrode and the material of the stent.
