Summary
Intracapsular neck fractures of the femur are among the most frequent fractures in the elderly and their treatment is an everyday issue for trauma surgeons and orthopedists. The choice of accurate surgical procedure is still an unsolved problem. The aim of our work was to evaluate which of the contemporary used surgical procedures for treatment of these fractures in the Clinical Department of Traumasurgery at the University Hospital of L. Pasteur in Košice produces the lowest number of failures and postoperative complications.
233 patients over 60 years old were assigned to a retrospective clinical trial. They underwent internal fixation for intracapsular neck fractures of the femur and were checked at least one year after the surgery. The results show that there is statistically significant difference: lower failure of dynamic hip screw fixations in comparison with 3 parallel screws, with no statistically significant difference in postoperative infections and early death.
Key words:
intracapsular neck fractures of the femur, internal fixation, comparison.
