Summary
Introduction:
Authors present current options of prevention, diagnostics and complex treatment of severe head injury.
Discussion:
The need for concetration of severe head injury in well-equipped traumacentres is stressed. New trends in multimodal monitoring are outlined. It improves diagnostics and provides targeted therapy. Current guidelines of surgical treatment are presented. Special attention is paid to decompressive craniectomy.
Conclusion.
Heterogenity of severe head injuries brings the need for complex and targeted treatment in traumacentres.
Key words:
severe head injury, prevention, diagnostics, conservative and surgical treatment, decompressive craniectomy, multimodal monitoring.
