Summary
The decision between (transperitoneal) laparoscopy and retroperitoneoscopy should be made according to the skills of the surgeon and to the best possible exposure of the organs. On the one hand laparoscopy provides a larger amount of space available for the instruments and good orientation. On the other hand retroperitoneoscopy is technically more demanding but offers the direct identification of the ureter and avoids transperitoneal surgery for an retroperitoneal organ. Urologists should be able to perform laparoscopic stone surgery as it avoids open surgery in selected cases.
Key words:
stone surgery, laparoscopy, retroperitoneoscopy, suturing technique
