Summary

Electric storm in the acute or chronic phase of myocardial infarction is a life threatening condition resulting, if uncontrolled, in death. Interplay of the arrhythmogenic substrate, autonomic tone, and milieu on the cell membrane of the cardiomyocytes constitutes the source of electric storm. The background arrhythmic mechanisms may differ as, in addition to the recurrent monomorphic (mostly reentry) ventricular tachycardia, the cause of arrhythmia may include incessant ectopic activity from the Purkinje fibers -induced recurrent ventricular fibrillation. Regardless of the basic ES mechanism, catheter ablation represents a life-saving procedure for ESs uncontrolled by the standard therapy.
