Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is one of the most common infectious diseases all over the world, and it remains a serious condition despite modern treatment methods. Pneumonias are a large group of diseases, which differ according to the epidemiological, pathogenetic, clinical, therapeutic and prognostic point of view. Our paper mainly focuses on community-acquired pneumonia and its aetiology, pathophysiology, factors that affect its course and severity, and on the treatment possibilities. It offers a review of the basic and complementary investigations that facilitate the differential diagnosis and diagnosis of the disease and draws attention to the possible complications of this serious illness.
