Summary
The article describes the case report of a patient with chronic kidney disease (CKD) progressing to renal failure necessitating the introduction of haemodialysis. Chronic kidney disease affects as many as 10 % of population, however only a fraction leads to renal failure. Treatment and follow-up by a nephrologist may slow CKD progression and defer haemodialysis, to better prepare a patient for this treatment and thus, to make introduction of haemodialysis simpler. Nephrologists may better diagnose and treat secondary complications associated with diminishing renal function.
