Summary
A modern approach to multidisciplinary rehabilitation focuses on an early, designed rehabilitation plan aimed at optimal effect in the shortest time possible and with effective costs. The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health – ICF, is used to classify the condition of a person’s health. The EU member states have adopted this classification as the basis of their philosophy and policy on rehabilitation. However, it is necessary to introduce this classification to the Czech Republic (it was published in the Czech language in Grada 2008), so that it can be applied practically. Rehabilitation is mutually connected and coordinated with the social care system. It helps people with disabilities after injuries, illnesses or with congenital diseases, to engage in a broad variety of normal social activities as soon as possible. The aim of this policy is to guarantee that people with disabilities will fully and actively participate in social life and to help integrate them to lead an independent life. Medical rehabilitation must be in conjunction with tools of social rehabilitation, social services, educational rehabilitation and prevocational and vocational rehabilitation.
