Summary
The issue of doping is becoming an increasingly common aspect of patient care at first contact, i.e. at the general practitioners. The aim of this article is to provide general practitioners with a general introduction to the issue of doping, drawing attention to the biochemical and physiological aspects, and possible adverse effects, of such prohibited substances; and further to warn against possible damage to the patient (top athletes) through incorrect prescription of any prohibited substance.
Key words:
doping; anabolic steroid; general practitioner.
