Článek podává stručný přehled nejdůležitějších mezníků dosažených v oblasti steroidní endokrinologie od 30. let 20. století do dnes včetně významnějších objevů dosažených na pracovišti autorů. Po historickém přehledu následují kapitoly o vývoji steroidní laboratorní diagnostiky, steroidní terapie a úvaha o očekávaných trendech.
