Summary
We present an interesting case of a 42-year-old man with dilated cardiomyopathy after probably undergoing myocarditis with left ventricular ejection fraction, initially 25%, temporarily improved to 35%, then again to 15-20%. During the last hospitalisation there was dramatic deterioration of the clinical condition and therefore three non-pharmacological procedures were used within 24 hours to treat cardiogenic shock – balloon counterpulsation, veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation and subsequently successful heart transplantation.
Keywords:
corticosteroid – balloon counterpulsation – heart transplant – cardiogenic shock
