Brain Actinomycosis – Case Reports

Summary
Actinomycosis of the central nervo us system is rare. Only a few percents of pati ents hospitalized with actinomycosis develop CNS involvement. Two cases of actinomycotic brain abscess are presented. The di agnosis of the first pati ents with solitary abscess was established by histological examinati on. Culture of the multiple brain abscess of the second pati ent yi elded Actinomyces. The tre atment included ne urosurgery therapy and prolonged administrati on of benzylpenicillin. The first pati ent with one- ye ar antibi otic tre atment was cured with minimal sequelae. The second pati ent di ed after 4 months beca use of progressi on of actinomycosis and other seri o us complicati ons.
