Summary
The aim of this article is to provide information about surgical possibilities for the treatment of symptomatic posttraumatic degenerative changes of the wrist that are irresponsive to conservative treatment. The correct indication is based on case history, clinical examination, detailed diagnosis of the grade and extent of wrist damage using X-ray, CT and arthroscopy and, in particular, thorough evaluation of the functional demands including the expected patient compliance. This article makes reference to radial styloidectomy, distal scaphoid resection arthroplasty, proximal row carpectomy, four-corner arthrodesis, wrist arthrodesis and wrist denervation. These surgical procedures should be performed by departments specialising in hand surgery.
Key words:
SLAC, SNAC, carpal instability, degenerative changes, surgical treatment.
