Summary

The interaction between alcohol and drugs is a serious and common problem in medical practice. This question is topical in the Czech Republic more than in other countries. Alcohol consumption is extremely high here. Some interactions occur frequently – such as abuse of analgesics in the lingering alcohol intoxication. This has a negative impact on the health of large segments of population. Many interactions between alcohol and drugs happen undetected. The reason is that the patient often does not link his problems with alcohol. Even when the patient realizes such interactions, he or she is not motivated to inform his physician.
