Insomnia in elderly patients from the point of view of a clinical pharmacist

Summary
Insomnia is one of the problems that commmonly occurs among elderly people. Insomnia can be the adverse effect of pharmacotherapy. Some of the drugs for insomnia treatment are potentially unsuitable for seniors. Pharmacotherapy of insomnia for seniors includes the options of utilizing magnesium, plant extracts, guaifenesin, substances acting on the benzodiazepin‘s receptors, some antidepresants, antipsychotics, antihistaminics of the first generation and substances acting on the metalonin‘s receptors.
